| I abruptly pulled away from his touch, and threw my gaze to the ground. I knew that he meant well, and I didn't want to pull away. I needed to be comforted, but so many memories were triggered by so many different things. That one small touch was one. I pushed the memory aside, though I knew it would be back later today. I shook my head, still avoiding his gaze, "I'm sorry, Jack." | |

A simple display of affection is all that is needed to change even the coldest of hearts. Those that most people believe can never be changed for the better, but rather are there for good and can never be changed. But a world through a dog's eyes is entirely different. In a dog's eyes, that person's heart isn't something that can never be changed and dying, but it something that is waiting to be changed and very much alive. But... To some dogs the job is impossible. No matter how hard they try. That human's heart is simply overtaken by a hatred that will and can never be deprived. A void in the soul that can never be filled. That was my dilemma.It always would be. A dream within a dream. No. This was just the opposite. A nightmare within a nightmare. There was no way out of it, either. I could not wake myself from the nightmare that was reality. Such a curse of a life I seemed to have. I would close my eyes each night, hoping to have sweet dreams that I would forget in the morning, only to ponder what projection was in my mind that very night. But, instead, malicious nightmares are the clouded projection that my sleep welcomes, though I wish it would install a 'Please Do Not Disturb' sign on its door. Yet, my mind did not work that way. Instead, it decided to torture me with my past put depicted in my dreams. A past of pain that I had never revealed to one soul, and I have yet to do so til this day. I know that the day when it spills from my mouth, along with the tears, will come, and I will wait and be prepared for that very day to arrive. The same dream haunted me each night. The same dream had the same beginning aspect each night: I would open my eyes to the first glimpse of my fragile life. My first glimpse of the life outside was a thin wire cage. I would perk my eyes to the first sound. The first sound was a shrill, mournful howl echoing through the old building. Everything. A lifeless, dark world was what I was brought into. That was the first thought that came to mind. But, really I was born in a place called, a- .
Me? I'm a puzzle waiting to have my last piece located.
